A landlord in China has discovered six million yuan (approximately AU$1 million) hidden under the bed of his rental apartment.
Ma Guangdi was preparing to advertise for a new tenant at his apartment in Chang’an County, Dongguan when he made the discovery, according to an article from eChinacities.com.
Mr Guangdi called for security guards and a rubbish collector to assist him in cleaning the home.
When the bed and mattress in the master bedroom were moved, the men found four large packages that were tightly wrapped in tape.
Inside one of the bags were paper packages containing bundles of cash in denominations of 50, 20, 10 and 5 yuan.
Mr Guangdi notified police, telling them he had rented the apartment to a person named Lu, who came from Jieyang, Guangdong Province.
Lu had agreed to rent out the apartment until May this year and upon reaching the end of his stay, Lu stopped paying the rent.
When Mr Guangdi went to inspect the apartment, he had found Lu had already moved away and so he decided to rent out the place after it was cleaned.
The total amount of cash in the four paper packages amounted to 6.33 million yuan.
Police immediately seized the money, which they allege was earned through illegal means and are currently investigating the case.
