A single mother has become the latest victim of disgruntled tenants after her investment property in New South Wales’ south coast was left littered with soiled nappies and rotting garbage.
Tracy Jones leased her four-bedroom property to an unemployed family of seven in an act of good will, but the situation turned sour when she was forced to evict them after complaints from neighbours.
Ms Jones and her son Doug filmed footage of their walkthrough in the house, which showed walls covered in human faeces, shattered windows and garbage on the floor.
Among the debris were empty beer bottles, nappies and stuffed children’s toys - some that had mould growing on them.
Kitchen items were left with food scraps and neglected aquariums were attracting flies.
"Welcome to my investment property. Oh my god, this place is disgusting," Ms Jones said. "Probably needs a bulldozer."
She has since been left with a massive clean-up effort and $3,000 in uncovered rent after she failed to insure the property.
"We've cleared [the living room] to be able to walk through," she said.
"Here's another room completely trashed. They've pulled the gyprock off the walls. There's absolutely nowhere in the house to wash their hands because all the taps have been removed."
Despite complaints from neighbours, charity groups had initially begged Ms Jones to give the family another chance, on the condition they cleaned up their act.
However, no clean-up occurred after three-months and she was forced to evict the family.
Ms Jones’ situation follows countless occasions in which self-managed landlords have had their rental properties trashed by tenants.
In August, a Melbourne property was left in disarray after tenants trashed the property in an act of revenge against the self-managed landlord.
