The fake ATO tax scam targeting property managers has resurfaced in the Northern Territory.
Last week, CEO of the Real Estate Institute of NSW Tim McKibbin reported a fraudulent letter from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) claiming to provide tax breaks for international investors.
Now, the same tax scam has appeared once again in the Northern Territory after a property manager reported the scam to Consumer Affairs.
In a statement, Consumer Affairs NT said “It appears that these scammers are targeting property managers in an effort to gain information on their property portfolios that they manage on behalf of non-Australian residents.
“The scam letter has an application form attached that requires the applicant to supply detailed personal information. Scammers may then use the information provided to assume the identities of the non-residents or to commit fraud.”
