Smoke alarm warning system set to save lives

A community awareness campaign aims to prevent over 100 house fire-related deaths in Australia each year.

In order to combat this huge number, Smoke Alarms Solutions will launch alarmreminders.com.au, a free service that sends regular email and text message reminders to change or replace their smoke alarms.

According to a spokesperson from alarmreminder.com.au, there are more than 10,000 house fires resulting in more than 100 deaths per year, with almost 65 per cent of deaths resulting from properties with no working smoke alarms.

“We provide a free service that sends emails and/or text messages at regular intervals to remind people to test their smoke alarms, change their batteries or replace their smoke alarm if it is reaching the end of its 10-year life span,” the spokesperson said.

“People have busy lives, and remembering to test their smoke alarms are fully functioning gets forgotten and overlooked.”

Already, a number of industry networks and associations have got behind the community awareness campaign, including Harcourts, Ray White, Professionals, Real Estate Dynamics and the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales.
