PM training to become more accessible

Interstate travel to conferences may become a thing of the past, thanks to an innovative new way of spreading property management education.

According to Fiona Blayney, general manager of Blayney Potential Plus, most property management companies send one or two delegates to interstate conferences and rely on them to bring back the correct information.

“Travelling to interstate capitals is not necessarily accessible for all property management teams, but even if you send someone, it’s like asking your partner how their day at work was – they say ‘it was good’.”

“This is why we developed our Kickstart videos,” she told Residential Property Manager. “We’re trying to make the information as easy to access as possible.”

According to Ms Blayney, the video sessions run on a similar system to Foxtel or Apple TV videos. Each separate session can be bought or hired individually.

“We’re trying to customise it from a financial perspective for users as well as a content perspective. You used to have to buy the whole series; now we can condense that into more relevant information for each person," she said.

“Even if you get the ‘it was good’ answer, you can ask which sessions were the best and then rent or buy those sessions for the entire team back home.

“That’s the way the world’s going – we call it lifelong learning. It has to be accessible to everyone.”

The first series of Kickstart videos are broken into four sections, including a panel session with three of property management’s big names: Joshua Thomas, head of property management at Morton & Morton; Kathy Crampton from McGrath Smollen Group; and Erin Marr from McCormac Barber in Orange, NSW. These experts talk about systems and technology and how they manage these in their businesses.

Industry trainer Hermione Gardiner joins Ms Blayney in a tag-team session on accelerating growth, focused on generating new business through scripts and dialogues, as well as a separate session on setting goals for yourself and your business.

The final session is devoted to the ‘Seven Steps to Happiness’ lead by business mentor Bernie Bolger.
