A property manager in the US who is being investigated for a rental scam faces a stint behind bars after allegedly throwing a bucket of urine on a code enforcement officer.

Craig Siegel of Sarasota in Florida is being investigated by local law enforcement officers for reportedly scamming rental customers out of thousands of dollars.

If things weren’t looking bad enough for Mr Siegel after being fingered for his involvement in the ongoing rental scam involving more than US$53,000 stolen from 19 victims, things have now got a whole lot worse after he was arrested pulling off the bizarre urine-throwing stunt.

The New York Daily News has reported that Mr Siegel - also a local chiropractor - had frequent dealings with the enforcement inspector of his five-bedroom property, which local detectives say he wrongly listed as a 12-bedroom property.

The report adds detectives stated that up until this week, Mr Siegel had received the cash from baffled perspective renters of his property after they found out his property wasn't at all like he described.

The authorities said Mr Siegel refused a refund for the renters.

The New York Daily News report said Mr Siegel retaliated to the complaints by allegedly encouraging upset customers to sue him.

For the urine-throwing incident, he was charged with criminal mischief and battery on a code inspector, while for the rental scam he was charged with 19 counts of scheme to defraud and is being held on a US$55,000 bond.
