A Perth man allegedly defrauded eight people of $30,000 by pretending to rent out units in West Perth.

The charges follow a string of international fraud that has recently occurred in Western Australia.

Police say the 34 year-old man utilised at least 10 aliases and used online real estate portals to advertise units for rent on Fitzgerald Street and Kings Park Road in West Perth.

The man collected money for four weeks' rent - as a security bond and two weeks' rent - in advance from unsuspecting victims.

He was, however, not authorised or able to rent the units advertised.

It is alleged the man has received over $30,000 from this scam so far, and that he generally targets international visitors.

Police have currently identified eight victims of this scam.

The man was arrested by detectives from Perth City this week and charged with 10 counts of gaining a benefit by fraud, seven counts of forgery and three counts of stealing.

Police have asked anyone with information about this or similar rental scams to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
