A rising star in property management has been singled out as the winner of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia’s (REIWA) Property Management Achievement Award, which was presented over the weekend.
M Residential head of property management and director Laura Levisohn was presented with the sought-after accolade at the 2014 bi-annual REIWA Property Management Conference held in Busselton from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 October.
She was up against 16 strong nominations for the REIWA Property Management Achievement Award.
“As part of the submission you had to cover areas such as your ongoing commitment to professional and personal growth and development, then it went through to your commitment to the industry, then customer care and customer satisfaction,” she told Residential Property Manager.
“It is quite difficult to put across to the judges what you actually do; you are limited to 200 words for each of the sections.
“You don’t know what your competition is, it is every property manager in WA, so you really don’t know what will happen,” she added.
Ms Levisohn said her achievements all come back to her attention to customer service and care.
“It is about keeping an open communication line,” she said.
“A lot of that is picking up a phone instead of emailing, so it is not leaving it to the assumption of tone or what you are trying to get across.
“You don’t know how it is coming across, people may take offense to those words.
“Yet, if you are saying those words over the phone you are getting a feel for whether they are happy on the end or quite frustrated,” she added.
Ms Levisohn said she tries to make it as easy as possible for clients to work with her and her team.
“We have initiated things such as Inspect Real Estate, which allows tenants to do their own online bookings, and they get to choose what time and day suits them,” she said.
“We even do video tours for vacant properties.”
In terms of plans for the future, Ms Levisohn said she is always looking to take it “the next step further”.
“At the moment I am looking into doing some training through REIWA and lecturing through REIWA,” she said.
“That is the next goal on my bucket list.
“Otherwise, LPMA next year; my goal is to get Property Management Company of the Year,” she added.
