If you are a person that has nothing to hide, this house design may be the one for you.
The 'S-House' in Saitama, Japan, was designed by Japanese architect Yuusuke Karasawa of Yuusuke Karasawa Architects.
Mr Karasawa said he developed the structure as a multi-layered complex network for a client who studies ‘network philosophy’.
He explained that while it is very transparent, the owner is able to make it more private with “polyester mirror curtains’’ designed to allow people inside to see out but prevent people outside from looking in.
Built on a tiny, 90 square-metre site, the house consists of two 50 square-metre floors crossing over two levels.
“Our hope is that this complex, layered network space will become a new architectural form that captures the various activities borne out of today’s informational society, where diversity and order are being demanded at the same time,’’ Mr Karasawa said.
Since the construction of the house, he has been contacted by another client keen to replicate the idea, so it may just catch on.
