Rentals reaping little reward

Sydney has dominated the list of the suburbs with the lowest rental yields in Australia. 

According to CoreLogic RP Data, the first seven of the top 10 lowest rent yielding suburbs for January 2015 were all based in Sydney, with the remaining three located in Melbourne.

Austral topped the list with a gross rental yield of 1.59 per cent. No data was available for the previous year.

Kirribilli recorded a rental yield of 1.72 per cent, which had halved from 3.90 per cent in January 2014.

Following closely was Glenorie, with a gross rental yield of 1.73 per cent. This was a drop from 3.02 per cent recorded the previous year.

The suburb of Potts Point was next, with a rental yield of 1.76 per cent – a steep drop from 4.76 per cent a year ago. 

Burwood recorded a gross rental yield of 1.90 per cent, which was also down from 4.63 per cent.

Rossmore produced a rental yield of 1.91 per cent over January 2015. No data was recorded for the previous year.

Kemps Creek recorded a rental yield of 1.93 per cent, a drop from 2.82 per cent last year.

The Melbourne suburb Eaglemont produced a rental yield of 1.94 per cent over January 2015. This was a decrease from 2.33 per cent the previous year. 

Balwyn in Melbourne recorded a rental yield of 2.00 per cent, also a fall from 3.21 per cent.

Ashburton in Melbourne rounded out the top 10, with a gross rental yield of 2.04 per cent. This was down from 2.5 per cent the previous January.
