An extravagant mansion asking for almost $1 million a month in rent is now the most expensive home on the American rental market.

Sitting on 2.4 hectares, the house in Malibu, California was recently put up for rent at $946,856 (US$750,000) per month.

The 2,044 square metre property features seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and a four-car garage.

According to the listing, the property also has a “professional screening room, world-class gym, spectacular indoor and outdoor areas for large-scale entertaining and a 51 metre infinity pool”.

The infinity pool has the title of the longest residential swimming pool in California.

Even the artwork hung in the home, a mix of contemporary works from elite artists like Damien Hirst and Ed Ruscha, is opulent and extraordinary.
