House-hunters who want to live near Jerry Seinfeld and have room to stretch their legs can now buy a historic estate worth almost $200 million.

Shepard Krech House (see below) has been owned by just three families since it was built in 1931 and is currently listed for a whopping US$140 million ($191 million).

The 10-bedroom, 11-bathroom estate is on 4.5 hectares of waterfront property in East Hampton, which is about 170km from New York City.

Among local residents are comedian Jerry Seinfeld, TV mogul Martha Stewart and designer Calvin Klein.

The home is on the US National Register of Historic Places and features a private pond, swimming pool, spa, tennis court and four-car garage.

The primary building is a 957sq m Georgian revival home with six bedrooms, three-storey living room, library, gourmet kitchen and gym.

The property also includes a 325sq m guest house with four bedrooms and private driveway.
