Rents have increased in most capital cities compared to the previous year, according to new statistics.
Onthehouse Data has reported that the national average rent for houses rose 3.6 per cent to $430 in June, while the national average for units rose 2.4 per cent to $420.
Sydney recorded the highest rental growth, with houses up 12.4 per cent to $680 and units up 6.7 per cent to $560.
Hobart posted growth of 4.4 per cent for houses to $360 and 3.6 per cent for units to $285.
Melbourne saw rents rise 3.4 per cent for houses to $455 and 1.3 per cent for units to $400.
Rents in the ACT were up 3.1 per cent for houses to $500, while units were up 1.3 per cent to $405.
Brisbane house rents climbed 2.3 per cent to $450, while unit rents remained unchanged at $380.
Adelaide saw modest growth of 1.4 per cent for houses to $370 and 1.7 per cent for units to $305.
Darwin’s numbers were down on the previous year, with houses falling 3.3 per cent to $580 and units falling 6.1 per cent to $465.
Perth also went backwards in both categories, with houses down 4.3 per cent to $445 and units down 4.6 per cent to $420.
