Two senior state government members have passed on their best wishes to the outgoing president of Western Australia’s peak real estate body.
Real Estate Institute of Western Australia president David Airey has retired from the institute after serving the maximum 12 years allowed by the constitution, including four as president.
Ian Cornell from Professionals Michael Johnson & Co, who was first elected to the governing board in 2004, also stepped down at yesterday’s annual general meeting.
Mr Airey told RPM that he was delighted when the Western Australian Premier, Colin Barnett, made a surprise visit at last night’s function and passed on his best wishes.
Michael Mischin, Attorney General and Minister for Commerce, also made a planned visit.
“I was overwhelmed to hear the Attorney General speak so kindly about myself and REIWA and pretty chuffed to see the Premier drop in and say g’day too,” Mr Airey said.
“We’re not personal friends, but the fact that he arrived and was just a guest was pretty amazing.
“I think what that says about REIWA is that REIWA is in a very good position in Western Australia and is well regarded at government level.”
Mr Airey and Mr Cornell have been replaced on the REIWA governing body by Rory Trotter from Force Real Estate and Suzanne Brown from Rentwest.
The nine-person council will meet shortly to elect office bearers, including a new president.
Peter Lawrance from Avanti Residential and Krys Tully from Tully Real Estate were re-elected to the council at yesterday’s annual general meeting.
The other council members are Damian Collins from Momentum Wealth, Hayden Groves from Dethridge Groves, Sarah Kinsey from Ray White Uxcel, Brett Thorp from Thorp Realty and Joe White from JMW Real Estate.
