New figures from SQM Research have highlighted increasing weekly rents across most capital cities, with only Hobart, Darwin and Perth recording losses.
Canberra saw the greatest increase in the country, with rent for houses climbing 8.3 per cent to $529 from February 2015 to February 2016 while units rose 3.7 per cent to $393.
Weekly rent for Sydney houses rose 4.1 per cent to $713 over the same period and units jumped 4.9 per cent to $499.
In Brisbane, houses rose 0.2 per cent to $449 while units climbed 1.5 per cent to $371.
Rent for Adelaide houses increased 0.1 per cent to $369 and units rose 4.2 per cent to $289.
Houses in Melbourne remained unchanged at $476 while units climbed 4.1 per cent to $370.
In Hobart, houses rose 7.3 per cent to $343, however units fell 2.4 per cent to $276.
Houses in Darwin dropped 9.2 per cent to $575 and units fell 10.6 per cent
In Perth, houses fell 10.2 per cent to $469 and units dropped 8.9 per cent to $378.
Nationally, houses have risen 1.9 per cent to $421 while units fell 0.3 per cent to $338.
