Do you want more from your career, from yourself and from life? Here’s how to smash down the barriers to success.

“We give ourselves excuses all the time,” motivation coach Susanne King told AREC 2016.

Ms King said not having a strong enough ‘why’ behind the decisions you make will affect the outcomes and increase the likelihood of failure.

“The more you practice your decision-making muscle, the stronger it will get and when you have that kind of focus where you say, ‘This is how it’s going to be’, you will follow through and do the action, you will do what’s necessary,” she said.

Ms King said the path to success is not just making decisions for your future, but also acting on those decisions.

She said agents who remove the easier, less effective paths are more likely to succeed than those who leave themselves with an escape plan.

“Most people aren’t prepared to go to that level. They usually leave a bit of a life raft for themselves, something that’s there in case it doesn’t work.”

Ms King said making a decision to succeed is often the difference between successful people and those who fail. By making a conscious choice to not allow failure into your life, you put yourself in the right mindset to make better business decisions.

“It’s important to remember that while you’re making the excuses and putting up walls between yourself and your future, there is someone out there who is just going ahead and doing it. It’s this difference that people often miss,” she said.

On why people get stuck in their career paths, Ms King said, “When we boil down to it, it really comes down to them”.
