Property management can be a rewarding career. Here is what you need to know about staying healthy as you grow your business.

The purpose of a great business is to give you an amazing life, not to give you money to pay doctors to make you better, according to leading real estate coach and industry commentator Tom Panos.

“Some property professionals work the first 20 years of their life totally out of balance,” he told RPM’s sister publication REB at the Secrets of the Top 100 Agents event in Sydney.

“They make a fortune and then spend the remaining 20 [years] using the fortune they made to help their health get better.”

But this is not the purpose of a great business, he said.

What are the things that are absolutely critical as core foundations in business and life, according to Mr Panos?

1. Adequate sleep
2. Daily exercise
3. A world-class diet
4. Having only positive, energising people around you
5. Ensuring you exercise gratitude
6. Taking a holistic view

Mr Panos said gratitude is about being happy with what you have while you are working for what you want.

“Ask yourself this question, if you are not happy with what you have right now, what makes you think you are going to be happier with more?” he said.

Mr Panos said being affected by illness early in his life was a “gift”.

“It’s been a gift, a gift that was badly wrapped because I get to spend the rest of my 20, 30, 40 years of my life [being] able to have the wisdom to understand that sometimes when things are falling apart they are actually coming together.”

Mr Panos said one of the most valuable lessons he learned was that the highest form of wealth was his health.

“So I would say, if you are an ambitious agent you might have to shift your to-do list to have exercise ahead of prospecting.

“Because if you are not alive and well, you won’t be doing any prospecting.”
