The REIQ has crowned its top auctioneer in Queensland, after five finalists went head to head in front of a sold-out crowd at the state’s auctioneering grand final in Brisbane last week.

The REIQ Auctioneer of the Year for 2018 is Justin Nickerson, winning the title for a record fourth time as the best auctioneer in the state, with Mitch Peereboom named the runner-up.

Mr Nickerson said he is humbled by the result.

“Of course, I was hoping to win, but to think that I’ve won this title four times now is unbelievable,” he said.

“It’s an absolute honour to win in a room of such high-quality competitors, and I congratulate the worthy runner-up, Mitch Peereboom, who delivered a fantastic auction call under pressure.”

Mr Peereboom has been auctioneering for a little under five years and has built an impressive auction career virtually straight from high school.

Mr Peereboom said he welcomed the opportunity to compete for the title.

“I am always looking for opportunities to develop my skills, and there is no better way to solidify what I do every day than to compete against the best auctioneers in the state,” he said.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella congratulated Justin Nickerson and Mitch Peereboom on their achievements.

“Auctioneering is such a specialised skill and requires such a disciplined approach that to become the best of the best requires extraordinary determination and commitment,” Ms Mercorella said.

“Congratulations to all the finalists on their success, and especially to Justin Nickerson and Mitch Peereboom. You’ve done yourselves proud, gentlemen.”

Mr Nickerson will represent the REIQ at the Australasian Auctioneer of the Year event (which he won in 2016) in Adelaide this September.
