The Agency has scored a significant coup by signing one of Sydney’s most established offices to its brand, gaining nearly 60 years’ worth of traction in the prestigious eastern suburbs market.

Raine & Horne Bondi Junction Coogee/Clovelly — owned by the Laing brothers Geoff, Tony and Michael — has announced that it will rebrand and join forces with the country’s newest high-profile network, The Agency.

The family-owned business first opened its doors in 1958 as S J Laing & Son Pty Limited, and has been trading in its current form as Raine & Horne Bondi Junction Coogee/Clovelly for the last 23 years.

The Agency CEO Matt Lahood said that the Laing brothers are all held in the highest esteem within the industry.

Mr Lahood said: “The Laing family has built one of the highest reputations in the real estate industry within Australia and we are honoured they have decided to become part of The Agency business.

“The values, ethics and morals of the Laing family, and the business’ legacy over the last 59 years, have gained them a standing beyond reproach. The Laing family’s integrity and business acumen has set the bar very high.”

Tony Laing said that there remains a strong personal relationship between the Laing and the Raine families, which will continue.

“When the opportunity arose to join The Agency, it was an extremely difficult decision to make for Geoff, Michael and I, considering our long-term personal and business relationships,” Mr Laing said.

“But in the end, it provided us with a new and exciting opportunity for our business.”

Mr Laing also said that the merging of the Laing family’s Bondi Junction and Coogee/Clovelly operations with The Agency is a good move for the future growth of both businesses.

He said: “The Laing family business has been operating since 1958 and we have many long-term staff, which gives us consistency and a very stable business which will continue under The Agency.”

The Laing brothers will assume key roles within The Agency’s Sydney operation. Tony will maintain a sales role and oversee the residential property management, Geoff will continue in commercial and general management, and Michael will head The Agency’s commercial sales and leasing division.

Executive director for projects at The Agency Steven Chen said that the addition of Michael Laing’s commercial sales and leasing portfolio is one of the “most important” changes to The Agency’s offering to date.

“There will be extensive synergies created between The Agency Projects division, which since February this year has already brought $2 billion in new developments to the marketplace, and the new commercial arm,” Mr Chen said.

The Laing family’s real estate business has enjoyed much success in Sydney, accumulating many institutional, commercial and residential clients along with a noteworthy local rent roll.
