The REA Group has made an executive appointment to one of its portfolio sites as it looks to deepen its influence across the entire Australian property spectrum.
Georgia Beattie has been appointed to the position of executive manager of Spacely, the company’s new property website for shared work and short-term commercial spaces for events, retail, meeting rooms and creative spaces.
Ms Beattie joins the REA Group from Startup Victoria, where she has served as chief executive since 2016.
Launched in May 2017 in beta, Spacely is already the number one listings site for the fast-growing flexible workspace.
REA has said that it intends to continue to scale this business.
REA Group’s EGM commercial & developer, Joseph Lyons, said that the appointment fits in with the group’s overall growth strategies.
“The volume of co-working space continues to grow at a phenomenal rate,” Mr Lyons said.
“So, Spacely needs a leader who understands the needs of start-ups and embodies the creativity, focus and entrepreneurial spirit that exists in the shared workspace environment.”
He said that Ms Beattie is the ideal person for the role.
“Georgia’s strong ties to the start-up community, coupled with her ability to take ideas and execute them on a global scale, makes her the perfect fit for this role.”
Ms Beattie said that the potential for growth in this sector of the market is substantial.
“The exponential growth in co-working spaces is a very real sign that the nature of work is changing,” the appointee said.
“Spacely is a fantastic platform to bring people together, whether they’re starting up, branching out or gearing up for growth. I’m excited to be able to lead the business, and together with the team, take it to the next level.”
She said that she is excited to get started.
“The opportunity to join REA, which has always been front and center of doing things differently in the digital industry on both a local and global scale, was hard to ignore.”
Ms Beattie added that the expansion of co-working has gathered significant momentum, with the number of co-working spaces growing by over 300 per cent since 2013.
She said that Melbourne accounts for over 50 per cent of the share and Sydney for almost 40 per cent.
Ms Beattie will assume her new responsibilities at the end of February.
