Ray White Chelsea owner and a life member of the leading network in Victoria, John Shore has helped raise more than $8 million for charity in his career.

Mr Shore, an agent and skilled auctioneer who has been with the Ray White Group since 1987, conducts at least 25 charity auctions each year.

“I have helped raise over $8 million over the past 10 years alone and am well known as the guy who sells ‘nothing’ at the end of each auction. In fact, I hold the world record for selling nothing for $52,000,” Mr Shore said.

“I have auctions each year in Melbourne, on the Gold Coast and even Las Vegas — all of these I do pro bono — which is my way of giving back.”

Ray White Chelsea has won numerous community service awards within the leading franchise group as well as the REIV and REA.

Mr Shore said that his latest auction on the Gold Coast was special.

“I conducted a charity auction for the Retail Global Conference and the goal was to raise $80,000 to re-establish a hospital in Bercy, Haiti,” Mr Shore said.

“The hospital has not been in use for more than five years, and when it was, the hospital serviced over 10,000 people, so you can imagine the difference it would make.”

Mr Shore said that the generosity of the guests was never in question, but even he was impressed with their spirited bidding.

“This same event last year saw a world record get smashed when they bid up to $52,000 for absolutely nothing,” the agent said.

“So, the $80,000 goal was ambitious, but in the end we eventually raised $152,075 for the hospital.

“The stage was being bombarded with offers of items to sell and the exciting news is that there was enough raised to refurbish the hospital and build seven two-bedroom homes for families that currently live in mud huts.”

Mr Shore said that this one is “by far” his most moving charity auction to date.

Mr Shore was Ray White’s chief executive officer of Victoria for nine years until 2005.
