The Raine & Horne awards were held last week, and one Sydney agent walked away with one of the brand’s top honours.

Luke Smith, co-principal of Raine & Horne Commercial Inner West/South Sydney, won Top National Commercial Salesperson – Auction Listing at the awards last week.

Mr Smith, along with his brother Nick, launched his commercial office in 2007 after a decade working for his parents at Raine & Horne Marrickville, a residential entity.

Mr Smith thanked his parents for all their support in building his career, despite never planning to go into real estate.

“It was never planned that I’d go into real estate… There was no doubt I was influenced by what mum and dad were doing. That said, there was never any pressure to join the family business,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith said that he remembered going to Raine & Horne conferences when he was young and that exposure helped him build his knowledge base.

“Having dad as part of the network for 35 years is also a plus. He’d take us to as many of the Raine events and conferences as he could. Tagging along with dad gave us exposure to successful people in the network,” the co-principal said.

Mr Smith worked in residential until opting to try a new asset class and branched out to commercial after identifying the potential in the area.

“The Inner West was and continues to be a bustling commercial and industrial property marketplace,” the agent said.

Angus Raine, executive chairman of Raine & Horne, said that it was inspiring to see the passing of the baton to the next generation of agents.

“Raine & Horne Marrickville has been selling residential and commercial property in the Inner West and Sydney’s south for 35 years, and it’s pleasing to see the second-generation principals such as Luke Smith and his brother Nick assuming the reins,” the executive chairman said.

Mr Raine said that it was this transition that represented the strength of the brand and would help Raine & Horne move forward in the industry.

“This shift not only guarantees business continuity for Raine & Horne but means our offices are led by young professionals who are fully immersed in every aspect of our brand, the property industry and are well known within their local communities,” Mr Raine said.
