One of the industry's oldest and most influential bodies has announced that its board of directors has appointed a new CEO, a woman for the first time in its nearly 50-year history.

Estate Agents Co-operative has announced that its board of directors has appointed Sylvia Cortez as its new CEO.

Ms Cortez first joined EAC’s finance team, where she was part of the co-operative’s strategic management. She was then promoted to head of finance, where she worked closely with EAC’s previous CEO, David Crombie.

In May this year, Ms Cortez was promoted to operations manager and, in the absence of a CEO, took on the role of acting CEO at board and co-operative level.

She has now been promoted to the CEO position.

Ms Cortez is EAC’s first female CEO. The board believes that her appointment will continue the success of the co-operative.

The board said that her appointment reflects EAC’s commitment to supporting aspiring females in the industry.

Ms Cortez said that she was excited by the challenges lying ahead.

“I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to continue to build the success of the co-operative.

“I have a passion for the industry, the people within it, and the co-operative and its members.

She said that EAC has an important role in the industry.

“I see the co-operative as a real change mechanism and voice for the industry as a whole and look forward to continuing and increasing EAC’s vision for change and innovation in the industry.”

The EAC board thanked all who were involved in the process of appointing its new CEO.

It said that it was looking forward to working with Ms Cortez and the team at EAC.

EAC was established by a group of seven agents in 1960 to help agencies meet the challenges of the time. Today, it is a network of more than 300 member agents from both independent and franchised agencies.
