McGrath founder and executive director John McGrath said that the real estate deals are authentic even if they happen on a television show, after his team smashed the reserve price at The Block’s final auction event and delivered a win for the contestants they represented.
“While it is a blockbuster TV show, these are also real sales to real buyers, so we apply the same sales strategies to The Block as we apply to all sales,” Mr McGrath said.
“The Block has captivated the attention of all Australians for almost two decades and we’re delighted to have represented Hayden and Sara to win this year’s event.
“They did a great job renovating their apartment and fully deserve the win. We are so proud of our St. Kilda team for their extraordinary efforts.”
Mr McGrath’s comments follow McGrath Estate Agents having made a firm impression on Channel Nine’s hit renovation series, The Block, pushing the auction limits for one of the properties and securing a win for the contestants.
McGrath St. Kilda agents Michael Townsend and Josh Stirling scored $3,020,000 for Unit 3 of The Gatwick for contestants Hayden and Sara, winning them the series and delivering them the $645,000 prize money.
McGrath chief auctioneer Scott Kennedy-Green drew competing bids from the room, passing the reserve and the $3 million barrier.
Mr Kennedy-Green said that he felt confident after he had done his research.
“After inspecting all the apartments, I was convinced this was a standout opportunity. It has generous proportions, [is] well designed and configured, [and] it was deserving of the win.
“Despite lower clearance rates and a slowdown in the Melbourne market, this is a testament that well-presented properties will always have the edge.”
Agents Michael Townsend and Josh Stirling said that the price was reflective of the higher end of the market.
“Where buyers are not reliant on finance and are able to capitalise on finite opportunities.
“This luxury northwest-facing apartment with 240 square metres of internal space was rare for the area. We see this result as a positive indicator for the St. Kilda market.”
Historically, McGrath Estate Agents has marketed five properties for The Block series. All auctioned by Scott Kennedy-Green, they have received the top price on three occasions and won the show twice.
