The REA Group has enticed a high-ranking executive from its fiercest competitor to cross over, as it continues to pursue its market share ambitions across Australia and abroad.

The REA Group has appointed Melina Cruickshank into the role of chief marketing and content officer.

Ms Cruickshank joins REA after more than 20 years in senior marketing and advertising roles both in Australia and the UK, including her most recent position as chief marketing and content officer of Domain.

CEO Tracey Fellows said that she was delighted Ms Cruickshank had agreed to join REA.

“Melina was the standout candidate. She is passionate about this sector and has a track record of success [in] leading teams and growing product and content revenue streams in Australia and abroad,” Ms Fellows said.

“Melina will drive our global marketing and content strategy, working with our talented teams in Australia and around the globe.”

Ms Cruickshank said that it was difficult to leave Domain.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here and am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given,” Ms Cruickshank said.

“The transition offers a global role for the industry leader, and I’m excited about stepping up to lead teams at that level. I also have enormous respect for Tracey and the REA executive team and am excited to work with them.”

Ms Cruickshank will be a part of REA Group’s executive leadership team, reporting to CEO Tracey Fellows.

REA said that Ms Cruickshank’s background is in e-commerce, agency, online classifieds and digital publishing, where her work has been building, growing and commercialising audiences.

It said that prior to Domain, Ms Cruikshank was group director of Life Media at Fairfax, leading the product and commercial content divisions that launched digital brands Traveller, Daily Life, Executive Style, Essential Baby and Good Food. She was also a product manager in the first Fairfax digital team that launched smh.com.au, theage.com.au, and afr.com.au.

Ms Cruickshank has a BA (Hons) from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma from Birkbeck, University of London.
