Men and women should work together towards gender equality, real estate portal Homely has said, as men continue to be promoted ahead of women into leadership positions despite an almost 50/50 split in the industry.

Senior account manager at Homely Felicity Solomou said the industry has made progress but that there is still much to do.

“We have come a long way, but we need to realise that we still have long way to go,” she told REB.

“We feel there needs to be more flexibility for women within the workplace, to enable a better family life and career balance.”

Ms Solomou said the landscape is changing.

“We’re seeing women have more confidence and be more willing to put themselves out there more than ever, and achieving great outcomes.

“Women have come to realise that they can be just as good as any male in either a sales or leadership position.”

Homely is the principal partner of the REB Women in Real Estate Awards for 2019.

Ms Solomou said it is “fantastic” to see events such as the REB awards, acknowledging the many great achievements of women in the industry.

“It’s also important for us to come together to celebrate our many accomplishments, acknowledge high achievers and showcase female representation in the industry.

“This is another testament to how far the industry has come with the contribution of women.”

She said Homely wants to “return the favour” to the platform’s supporters.

“The women in real estate have been some of Homely’s biggest supporters since our launch,” Ms Solomou said.

“Homely has chosen this partnership to enhance, add credibility as well as generate momentum to what we feel is a very worthwhile cause, in acknowledging the important role that women play within the real estate industry.”
