Adrian Kelly returns as the Real Estate Institute of Australia’s president for a second term.

The Tasmanian local was re-elected at REIA’s annual general meeting last week in Canberra, and Hayden Groves was returned as deputy president for the next year.

“The past year has been an important year for the REIA with the federal election in May and the public debate on taxation of housing and its impact on affordability,” Mr Kelly said.

“There is no doubt that REIA’s campaign, supported by REIs and franchise networks, played a role in the election outcome with marginal electorates, with higher than average numbers of investment property owners showing a larger swing towards the government than the national average.

“The election also saw a turning point in the market with confidence returning.”

Mr Kelly was pleased that REIA’s voice was heard this year and a housing minister was appointed this year.

“REIA will continue to be a strong advocate for the retention of the current arrangements for the taxation of housing,” he said.
