NSW teens arrest reb

Three 17-year-olds have been arrested and charged by police for the murder of Canberra auctioneer Peter Keeley.

Mr Keeley’s body was found bound in bushland in Broulee on 2 February, and police are investigating the possibility of a hate crime.

Police told media last week one of the teenagers had allegedly communicated with the former agent via gay dating app Grindr.

“One line of inquiry [into the death] was the method of communication used by the victim, and another was dating apps and one of them was Grindr,” Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

Police are also exploring other lines of motives as part of their investigation.

“The motive is still unclear, but one has to look at other considerations such as whether there was any drug-related information or whether it was robbery related or whether it was in relation to some kind of hate crime,” he said.

The Keeley family is still processing the news and are devasted with what has happened, they said in a statement.

“All that can be said is we have been deeply affected by this tragedy and we are still grieving. We are grateful for the overwhelming support from family and friends.

“As we continue to process this news, our family has requested privacy at this time to allow us to support Peter’s children.”

Mr Keeley recently worked at Crowthers Property - Action, and his brother Richard Keeley is also an auctioneer in Canberra.
