Landlord, property managers and short-stay accommodation providers can avoid complaints from grumpy neighbours who called noise control in the early hours of the morning with a device to monitor their tenant’s noise levels.

The Airbnb-like accommodation sector has grown as investors attempt to make a higher return, but they take on the risk that comes with short-term tenants.

Parties, large gatherings and band practices are among some of the events landlords have to deal with that enrage neighbours who seek quiet.

“Many property owners have units and apartments in complexes that are subject to body corporate requirements, including noise levels. Property owners can’t afford to have their properties damaged or for them to be kicked out of short-term stay arrangements because of poor renter behaviour,” Secure Your World CEO Scott Cairns said.

Mr Cairns believes his company has developed a solution for landlords to be able to keep tabs on the noise level at their property.

Secure Your World has created a small, wireless device that can be attached to the wall or ceiling to monitor the activity in the house.

“The sensor then connects to an app that includes a dashboard enabling the user to view and manage the sensor from anywhere,” Mr Cairns said.

“The all-in-one sensor then monitors noise levels, temperature, smoke alarms, movement, mould risk and even lets you know if the sensor has been tampered with.”

The device does not record or send raw data, which keeps the guest’s privacy, but it gives landlords the ability to respond quickly to concerns.

“It will help to prevent damages and also avoid owners receiving hefty fines, enabling them to deal with issues before they get out of hand,” he said.
