The real estate giant has responded to the news Ray White Balmain principal Karl Howard is being held under police guard on allegations he attacked two women — one with a samurai sword.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, 8 February 2021, saw emergency services called to an Annandale home, following reports two women had been injured.

A statement from the NSW Police Force said police were told a man punched a 27-year-old woman in the head, before a 29-year-old woman intervened and was struck with a weapon — believed to be a samurai sword.

Both women were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

The man, since identified as Mr Howard, was later arrested after allegedly being found hiding behind a parked car by police.

He was also taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after suffering an injury to his shoulder during the arrest.

The 27-year-old in question has been reported as being Mr Howard’s girlfriend, while the woman stabbed by the samurai sword was a friend of hers.

Mr Howard has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, wound with intent to murder, and trespassing, and has been formally refused bail, with his case briefly mentioned at Newtown Court on 10 February 2021.

Responding to the news, Ray White acknowledged that the principal was initially stood down from the business on Monday, pending the police investigation.

That suspension has since been extended pending the resolution of charges against him.

“Rebecca Fearon remains the licensee in charge of the Ray White Balmain business which continues to trade during this difficult time,” the statement read.

“The Ray White Group is an Australian family-owned and led business and it expects a high standard of personal conduct from its members. We do not condone violence in any form.

“We are concerned for the wellbeing of all involved and staff are being offered counselling services.”
