Three big names in Australian real estate have been revealed as the newest directors on REI Super’s board of trustees.

The industry superfund has announced Nathan Jones, chief executive officer Buxton Real Estate Group as taking on the Victoria and Tasmania electorate position, Cassandra Mason, a partner and head of property management at Arena Real Estate, and Leanne Pilkington, the chief executive officer and director of Laing+Simmons as the board’s newest directors.

REI Super independent chair, Claire Higgins, explained that all three were elected after a contested nomination period, and will hold office for a four-year term from 1 October 2021.

Offering her congratulations to Mr Jones, Ms Mason, and Ms Pilkington, Ms Higgins said: “These new Directors will further diversify the board by increasing female representation and will also contribute a broad range of skills and industry knowledge.”

REI Super is reportedly one of only a few industry funds to have member-elected directors on their board of trustees.

“Having member-elected directors on our board means that our directors truly represent our membership and bring a wealth of knowledge of the real estate industry,” Ms Higgins continued.

“The board are excited to welcome our newly appointed directors as we continue to strive to achieve better retirement outcomes for our members and remain one of the top-performing funds.”

It’s an exciting prospect for Mr Jones, who indicated he is “very much looking forward to joining the board”.

Ms Mason also indicated she is ready to contribute to REI Super’s future growth, expressing that she is “proud and enthused to be able to join the REI Super Board of Trustees”.

According to Ms Pilkington, “super is such an important conversation, and one so many people don’t focus on as early as they should”.

“The opportunity to work with the REI Super Board to continue to get the message out to our industry is one I am very much looking forward to,” she concluded.

With the naming of the trio, REI Super reported it would be farewelling Greg Paterson, Ian Armstrong, and Neville Pozzi, whose terms will conclude on 30 September 2021.

Ms Higgins said: “REI Super has seen enormous growth during the tenure of these directors who have tirelessly given their time, knowledge and expertise to achieve better retirement outcomes for our members. We wish them all the very best.”
