After COVID-19 put a dampener on 2020’s Christmas cheer, West Australians can once again drop their Salvation Army Christmas donations at real estate offices across the state.

A long-running collaboration between the Real Estate Institute of West Australia (REIWA) and The Salvation Army is returning to in-person donations after the COVID pandemic forced REIWA to modify their donation collecting activities in 2020, switching to a digital drive while offices were closed.

This year, 42 offices will be accepting unwrapped gifts or non-perishable food items for the charity’s Christmas drive, though REIWA CEO Neville Pozzi noted that online donations were still very welcome.

“It’s been a challenging two years, to say the least, which is why we are strongly encouraging all West Australians to get behind the great work the Salvos do on a daily basis to help those who are most vulnerable in our community,” Mr Pozzi said.

He noted that more than 14,000 West Aussies were expected to turn to the Salvos for assistance during this holiday season, which The Salvation Army public relations secretary Warren Palmer said would represent a new peak for the organisation in the state.

“Increased isolation, financial stress and mental health impacts of COVID-19 this year will continue to exacerbate other pre-existing issues. The Salvos want to leave no one in need this Christmas, and we need the generosity of the community to once again partner with us in support of locals doing it really tough,” Mr Palmer said.

Mr Pozzi said donations would be accepted from this week through 13 December, adding that no gift was too small.

“As we have seen in the eight years of partnering with the Salvos for this initiative, a little generosity can go a long way in bringing joy to these families at Christmas time.”
