Shuttered for months through COVID-19 lockdowns, a charitable art exhibition space operated by a Northern Beaches real estate agency has once again opened its doors to the community.

Celebrating with an exhibition of marine photographs by German-Korean artist Rita Kluge, The Studio at Careel Bay Marina in Avalon is the brainchild of Amy and Matthew Young of Laing + Simmons Young Property, who share a passion for creative projects that raise awareness for ocean conservation.

Ms Kluge’s underwater scenes, which are accompanied during the exhibition by music from Simon King, will be sold to benefit Living Ocean, an environmental association promoting awareness of the human impact on marine environments through research, education and creative activation.

Ms Young said the work of Ms Kluge, who is now based in the Northern Beaches, served as an  “inspiring, wondrous reminder of the importance of caring for our beautiful marine world.”

“It’s a privilege to support the critical work of Living Ocean at The Studio, and we can’t wait to see familiar local faces again,” she added.

Since launching at the end of 2020, the not-for-profit space, which doubles as the agency’s office, has raised over $6,500 for local causes, including Living Ocean, One Eighty, Dreams2Live4, Sea Shepherd Australia, the Seabin Project and the Avalon Beach Historical Society.

Ms Young noted that the community response to their initiative has been strong, and she was pleased to be able to once again facilitate contributions to such an important cause.

“After the challenges of lockdown, we’re glad to be able to welcome the local community back to The Studio, and Rita’s collection is the ideal way for people to reacquaint themselves with a space that has been created for them,” Ms Young said.
