On the 94th birthday of its inception, the group has revealed its newest national charity beneficiary and a $35,000 donation to the cause.
LJ Hooker Group has revealed it will be partnering with Friends with Dignity for 2022–23.
A volunteer-based charity, Friends with Dignity aims to improve the quality of life for adults and children who have been impacted by domestic violence — providing financial and tangible resources, programs and scholarships.
The announcement of the alliance between the real estate group and the charity coincides with LJ Hooker Foundation Day — which marks the original opening date for the LJ Hooker business in Sydney’s Maroubra back on 20 September 1928.
In commemoration of the partnership’s commencement, the LJ Hooker Foundation has made an initial $33,500 donation to Friends with Dignity.
LJ Hooker Group chief executive Christine Mikhael shared that the partnership aligns with the group’s values: “Real estate isn’t about houses, it’s about people.”
She said the new partnership goes someway to supporting victims and creating awareness around the issue of domestic violence, acknowledging that domestic violence has become “a major health and welfare issue”.
“Domestic and family violence is disturbingly common. It is one of the main drivers of homelessness among women, children, and men,” she said.
“It’s crucial that those affected by domestic violence can be relocated safely and have the support and goods in place that they need to feel at home. We’re looking forward to how we can contribute to exactly that.
“During the balance of 2022 and throughout 2023, our network will support the partnership by fundraising and promoting Friends with Dignity’s life changing services,” Ms Mikhael imparted.
For Friends with Dignity CEO and founder Manuela Whitford, the support that a partnership with the likes of LJ Hooker brings with it aids in funding practical programs, she explained, expressing that the charity is “thrilled” to be selected as the chosen charity.
Reflecting on the importance of LJ Hooker Foundation Day, Ms Mikhael said it celebrates “the generosity of the network”.
To date, the LK Hooker Foundation has donated more than $8.6 million to charities and charitable partners.
Over the 2022 financial year, the charitable arm of the LJ Hooker and Atlas by LJ Hooker networks raised over $260,000 for charities, including Humpty Dumpty Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, and Lifeline.
Ms Mikhael said the foundation enables local offices and their teams to “engage in their communities and boost their social impact”.
“It gives us all a greater purpose beyond the day-to-day, while simultaneously providing much needed funds for those in need,” she said.
