The national lobbying group has locked in a new executive in its Victorian leadership team — a timely appointment that comes in the immediate wake of the state voting of its “old” but brand new leaders.

Following an extensive search process, the Property Council of Australia has announced that Cath Evans will be the organisation’s new Victorian executive director.

Ms Evans first stepped into the role in an interim capacity in September, with a formidable resumé under her belt. At that time, she was a practising litigation lawyer and chief executive officer/chief operating officer of large ASX-listed professional services firms, operating in both Australia and the UK.

Notably, Ms Evans is also a company director and currently chairs a board for a non-profit organisation providing family violence and homelessness services.

Property Council chief executive Ken Morrison expressed his approval of Ms Evans continuing to work with the organisation.

“Cath brings extensive corporate and advocacy experience to the Property Council, and I am delighted that she will now be joining the executive team on a permanent basis,” Mr Morrison said.

For Ms Evans, her confirmation in the organisation’s leadership slate in Victoria comes at an “important time”.

“[With] the Andrews government re-elected in its own right and some significant economic and social challenges facing the state,” Ms Evans said.

“Providing affordable housing, increasing industrial land supply and improving the process for greater efficiency in planning and CBD renewal are all important areas where the industry can partner with the government to deliver better outcomes.

“I look forward to championing the issues which are important to Victoria’s future.”

Ms Evan’s appointment comes after the Property Council congratulated Premier Daniel Andrews and his Labor government on their re-election for a third consecutive term on 27 November.

Election results called in on 26 November showed the Labor retained its majority in the Victorian Parliament, an outcome then interim Victorian executive director Ms Evans said was “the best” for Victorians.

“A majority government will enable the Premier and his government to deliver on their policy commitments, and the Property Council and our members look forward to working together with the government on the key elements of their mandate,” Ms Evans said.

According to her, the election results also ensure a “stable government” while providing an environment with minimal distractions in which the Parliament can focus on the challenges facing the state.

“The Property Council is keen to forge a strong partnership with the Andrews government that supports the creation of more homes in new and established areas, unlocks land for job creation in industrial corridors, and seizes the great opportunity for regional Victoria provided by the 2026 Commonwealth Games,” Ms Evans said.
