Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) Australia has been supporting seriously ill children and their families since 1981. A global nonprofit organisation that provides help and support, through a wide range of programs, for these children and their families when they need it most.
This year a new and unique fundraising initiative, Bids for Beds, is aiming to raise $100,000 for RMHC and was an idea by co-founder Jack Harris after he spent some time volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Randwick. Jack was deeply affected by the experience and decided he wanted to do more to help those kids. He came up with the brilliant idea for auctioneers & agents to donate a portion of their usual fees earned on a typical Saturday auction. Domain is proud to be the major sponsor and Nine has also jumped on board to help raise awareness for this amazing initiative.
“On Saturday the 18th of March, we’re calling on Auctioneers & across Australia & New Zealand to donate one of their auction fees to the RMHC. We’re also asking for their Agent partners to match their donation. In 2022 there were over 110,000 auctions scheduled in Australia & New Zealand, and if we can tap into a small portion of that figure we will have an enormous impact.” says Jack Harris, Director & Auctioneer at Fox Auctions.
Justin Nickerson, Director of Apollo Auctions says “I'm thrilled to participate in the inaugural Bids for Beds event. As soon as Jack explained the initiative's goals & cause, we leapt at the chance to contribute.” Nickerson is now calling on the industry to get behind the cause and participate.
Dan Cachia, Associate Director at PPD Real Estate says “Aligning with Jack & Bids for Beds was an absolute no brainer for my wife and I, as our daughter was born prematurely and spent many weeks in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). We had a few hospital stays throughout the first years of her life and are extremely grateful for the amazing Nurses & Doctors at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. Bids for beds is an incredible creation and it’s an honour to be a part of the day.”
“Without Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney our story, our journey would be very different, and my husband and I know that, so not a single day goes by in which we aren’t grateful” Tanya Ford, mother of Hamish who is still receiving treatment for Leukaemia tells RMHC of her experience.
