One network is hoping to make 2023 a special year in its charitable efforts by crossing the $1 million milestone in donations to Make-A-Wish Australia.

Barry Plant has been working with the charity for nine years, dedicating a portion of all sales conducted every October to the organisation, which works to grant the wishes of sick kids across the country. Over that period, it has made just over $900,000 in donations. With a big October on the cards, the network is looking forward to rounding out the figure to $1 million.

Getting hands-on with the initiative, the network also gets involved on a local level to make the organisation’s plans come to life.

One recent instance saw Barry Plant kit out the interior of nine-year-old Oli’s backyard clubhouse.

Oli, who has been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, asked for a fun space to meet with friends where they could play board games, hold PlayStation battles, hang out and joke around. Collaborating with his dad on a mood board served as both a guide for the businesses that came together to help Oli out, and a respite from the daily challenges of treatment for his illness.

A cubby supplier partnered with Make-A-Wish to provide a “surfer shed” for the yard, while a local painter donated his time to paint the clubhouse’s exterior. Barry Plant, meanwhile, sponsored the interior of the clubhouse, which, per Oli’s dream, included a table, chairs, game storage and a request for a “BOY pink” beanbag. A welcome mat, planter box and sign declaring “this is Oli’s clubhouse” completed the picture.

While the project was under construction, the network built anticipation with a specialty sign reading “under construction”, handing Oli a “now open” sticker in the style of a “sold” label to inaugurate its first day in use.

It’s because of stories like Oli’s that Barry Plant has remained strong in its commitment to the charitable endeavour, and hopes to enable many more wishes to be granted through its efforts this October.

“Over the years, this inspirational organisation has brought smiles, hope and respite to countless young lives. The Wishtober event stands as a shining example of how corporate and community alliances can make a profound difference in the lives of those in need,” the network said in a statement.
