Welcome Home Living and Leasing will service the Ipswich, Springfield and Logan region under director Shannen O’Connor, who has launched the new agency in partnership with the real estate platform UrbanX.
While O’Connor brings over 12 years of real estate experience, the idea for Welcome Home Living and Leasing started when the director was purchasing her first home at the age of 23.
Even though O’Connor considered stepping on to the property ladder to be an exciting milestone, she acknowledged that the agency she worked with left her feeling like just another client, instead of celebrating her achievement.
“The agency I purchased through made it feel like just another transaction, not the huge accomplishment it truly was,” O’Connor said.
“From that moment, my goal has been to ensure that all my clients experience the excitement and recognition that such a monumental event deserves,” she said.
Following her years of experience at large real estate franchises, O’Connor said she had begun to feel like a “cog in a machine driven by sales quotas” and added that it took her six months to make the decision to start her own brand.
To open her own business, O’Connor chose to partner with UrbanX, which enabled her to shift her attention away from the operational aspects of agency management.
Through her previous roles working at a fertility clinic and the Department of Communities, O’Connor developed her interpersonal skill set, which she uses today to connect with clients throughout their important and often personal road to home ownership.
“We chose to partner with UrbanX because as real estate agents, our focus has always been on helping clients buy, sell, and lease properties not on the intricacies of business operations,” O’Connor said.
Looking ahead, O’Connor noted that she was excited to help her clients achieve their property ambitions and cultivate a team environment where new agents can benefit from a positive and supportive culture.
Offering advice to other agents who are considering opening their own office, O’Connor encouraged them to “do what feels right”.
“If you see things that need to change or improve, don’t wait for someone else to make it happen and create the change yourself. It’s a leap of faith but when you follow your passion and stay true to your vision, the rewards are worth it,” she said.
