Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) CEO Cath Hart has announced her imminent departure from her position, with current COO Kalien Selby set to step in as acting CEO until a permanent replacement is found.
REIWA CEO, Cath Hart, has advised the institute’s council of her intention to step down as CEO following the completion of several major milestones for the peak body.
Hart, who is set to depart three years after her appointment to the role of CEO in May 2022, said she was honoured to have served the institute during her leadership term.
“It has been an extraordinary privilege to lead REIWA through this particular period when addressing the challenges of housing supply has been the number one priority for the community and policymakers,” she said.
Hart shared she was “immensely proud” of what the institute had achieved during her tenure, including advocacy wins, digital transformation, deeper engagement with members, and a reinvigorated events and external engagement program.
The institute also noted that it had substantially grown its membership during Hart’s time as CEO, which has positioned the peak body for a “strong and sustainable future”.
Hart’s contributions as CEO were also influential in supporting REIWA through several key industry challenges, such as the cyber security threats in Western Australia, and the impact of Iplex pipes on the state’s established housing market.
Under Hart’s leadership, Western Australia notably remained the only jurisdiction in Australia that retained no-grounds evictions after a major review of residential tenancies legislation.
In the lead-up to Hart’s departure, REIWA’s council has already commenced the recruitment process for a new CEO, while REIWA’s current COO, Kalien Selby, will serve as institute’s acting CEO in the interim.
REIWA president, Suzanne Brown, highlighted Hart’s service to the institute and the Western Australian real estate sector, and thanked the outgoing CEO for her contributions.
“Cath has made a valuable contribution to REIWA and the real estate profession in Western Australia. We thank her for her service and wish her every success as she embarks on her next chapter,” Brown concluded.
