The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has announced two major appointments, unveiling Ian Hazan as its new national president and David Morris as national vice-president.

The announcement follows the completion of outgoing national president Debbie Johnson’s two-year term.

Hazan, a veteran builder, boasts 30 years of experience in the residential building industry and has supported Johnson for the past two years as vice president.

Before becoming HIA’s new president, Hazan had been serving the peak body for over 15 years, including as Victorian president and chair of HIA’s national training and professional development committee, national membership committee, and national technical committee.

In 2016, Hazan was appointed to HIA’s national board of directors.

Meanwhile, Morris, director of Tasmanian law firm Simmons Wolfhagen, joined HIA’s national board of directors in 2021.

Prior to this, he served regionally and nationally on HIA’s industrial relations committee and became national chair of the committee in 2017.

Morris’ work is focused on planning and environmental advocacy and advice in the residential sector, and the local government regulatory framework and governance.

The HIA congratulated Hazan and Morris as they assumed their new positions, and recognised Johnson’s significant contribution as president.

It said Hazan was passionate about innovation in the industry and expressed confidence he will deliver results that reflect this.

“He is keen to ensure HIA is well-equipped to support builders and the broader industry to navigate technological and business changes well into the future,” HIA concluded.
