Following a surge in auction activity across its Queensland offices, McGrath has appointed a new head auctioneer as more of its sellers opt for speed and transparency.

McGrath Estate Agents has appointed Marcus Muir as the new head auctioneer for Queensland as the network strives to keep up with a recent surge in demand for the auction process.

Bringing over 10 years of experience, Muir joins the network following a notable increase in residential property auction campaigns, as seen by McGrath’s Brisbane and south-east Queensland offices.

Muir said that the auction process, already popular in NSW and Victoria, recently gained traction as the preferred sales method in Queensland.

“If a seller calls in three agents to present their services, two will pitch the auction method. It’s becoming common practice,” Muir said.

He said one benefit of the auction method is that sellers do not want to be tied to a set price, given that the market can be volatile even during a sales campaign.

“The auction method allows agents to gather as much feedback on price from buyers over the campaign. That feedback helps their sellers make an informed decision on the day of auction,” he said.

Additionally, sellers also see an advantage in auction sales being unconditional, giving them closure and the ability to move on with peace of mind.

According to Muir, another aspect of the auction experience is the emotion that surfaces as buyers publicly express their interest in the property.

“They are competing on an equal playing field – it’s the most transparent way to buy. This emotion is something that you just can’t get through private treaty,” he said.

Having started his career as a sales agent and worked his way up, Muir believes he’s in an ideal position to tackle the role to meet the growing demand for auctions in the network.

“I’ve been in the agent’s shoes and that understanding helps me assist them on the day to achieve the best possible outcome for their clients,” he said.

“My aim is to ensure McGrath is ranked the market leader in the auction space. Our expertise in the auction field supports our agents in achieving the best results for their clients.”

Muir said that experienced principals and agents at McGrath also endorse the benefits of choosing the auction method when vendors are looking to sell their property.

“Our job, as auctioneers is to provide unparalleled service and expertise to bring about the best outcomes for our clients,” he said.

McGrath’s chief auctioneer and head of network auctions, Scott Kennedy-Green, said that, in addition to transparency, the auction process is also effective in terms of speed and the ability to deliver premium results.

He said Muir’s proven track record of success and extensive experience will serve as an asset heading into the role.

“His deep understanding of the Queensland market and his exceptional auctioneering skills will be invaluable as we continue to grow and deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients,” he concluded.
