REA names new chief executive

By Reporter 18 August 2025 | 3 minute read

The $33 billion property giant has named its new chief executive, who will take the reins in November following a leadership reshuffle.

REA Group has appointed Cameron McIntyre as its new chief executive officer, effective 3 November.

McIntyre, who previously served as managing director and CEO of CAR Group, oversaw sixfold growth during his tenure at the parent company of carsales.com.au.

REA Group chairman Hamish McLennan said McIntyre’s track record in digital transformation and customer value creation made him the clear choice.

“We are delighted to announce Cam’s appointment, following a comprehensive global search,” he said.

“Having led the growth and transformation of CAR Group’s business, Cam has a wealth of experience in successfully leading a thriving global digital business. He has consistently executed strategies that enhance value for customers while breaking new ground to improve the consumer journey.”

McIntyre will replace outgoing CEO Owen Wilson, who is retiring from full-time executive positions after nearly 11 years with the company, including six as chief executive. Wilson will move into the role of chair of REA India.

McIntyre said he was eager to build on the group’s reputation for innovation and growth.

“Its culture of innovation and investment is renowned and I’m looking forward to working with the board and the team to continue delivering growing value for REA’s customers, frictionless and engaging experiences that enhance the property experience for consumers, and excellent outcomes for shareholders.”

It comes days after realestate.com.au announced five new immersive app features for spring to prepare for the peak selling season.

REA Group said that the features include immersive property walkthrough videos, AI property highlights, building and pest reports, a make-an-offer button, and monthly market insights.

With the new update, property buyers will be able to virtually move through the home to examine the layout, natural lighting, and room size as if they were there in person.

Additionally, property highlights powered by AI will inform property seekers about the key features of a property, making it easier to compare listings.

The update will also include integrations to buy building and pest reports, as well as check NBN availability.
