A Barry Plant agent from Melbourne’s north has donated time, resources and expertise to support a children’s cancer charity in its mission to support families, promote research and find a cure.

Barry Plant Craigieburn agent Romi Sleiman has helped run the 2025 Home for a Cure sale campaign, where a donated house is sold with all proceeds going to My Room Children’s Cancer Charity to support children battling cancer and their families.

This year’s auction featured a stylish four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence at 36 Pasilla Circuit, Mickleham.

The home was built by Henley Home on a 412-square-metre block provided by Satterley Property Group, with Barry Plant donating the sale campaign.

The family home was sold on Saturday, 6 September, with the auction result to be announced as part of the My Room Grand Final Telethon.

Sleiman was introduced to the initiative in 2024 by Barry Plant Taylors Lakes and St Albans’ James Hatzimoisis, who served as auctioneer for the campaign and ensured that every dollar raised went directly to vital cancer research.

The initiative was a special cause to be involved with, Sleiman said, as it was important for him to give back to the community.

“Having the opportunity to do this for a second year in a row was incredibly rewarding. It felt like I was making a difference in people’s lives,” he said.

“So I came back this year, managing all the opens and campaign work while Jimmy brought his trademark energy to auction day. Together, we achieved another outstanding result, which will be announced soon,” he said.

Last year, the 2024 Home for a Cure property sold for $1 million at the My Room Grand Final Spectacular.

Barry Plant CEO Lisa Pennell said the network has always been a supporter of the cause, believing that a thriving real estate community depends on support and connection with its community.

“That’s why we believe it’s our duty to give back, especially to such an important cause as finding a cure for childhood cancer,” she said.

“Our hearts go out to every family affected by this devastating disease, and we hope contributions like Romi’s and Jimmy’s can play even a small part in finding a cure.”

She said the face of the 2025 Home for a Cure was a six-year-old boy named Kruz, who has endured challenges following a leukemia diagnosis and intensive treatment.

“After a shock diagnosis of a rare form of leukemia, he underwent intensive treatment, including a bone marrow transplant, and now looks ahead with hope to a new trial,” Pennell said.

Since its founding in 1993, My Room has seen survival rates for several childhood cancers rise to around 84 per cent.

The charity said that despite the positive survival rates, many children still lack access to effective treatments and face cancers with slight improvement and harsh long-term side effects.

At this year’s auction, there were special appearances from AFL stars and My Room ambassadors, Andrew McGrath from the Essendon Football Club, and Will Day from the Hawthorn Football Club.

“You could really feel the whole community rallying around this cause, and with that kind of support, we achieved another outstanding result and raised vital funds for children’s cancer research,” Sleiman concluded.
