In an industry where many agent teams are built around one lead performer, Place Bulimba agents Mikaela Crone and Shannon Gordon have taken a different approach... and it’s paying off.
Just 12 months after officially joining forces, the pair are both individually million-dollar agents and are now on track to write close to $3 million together this financial year, as they continue expanding across Brisbane’s southside and into the prestige market.
Working across Camp Hill, Coorparoo, Norman Park, Carina Heights and surrounding suburbs, Mikaela and Shannon are consistently ranked among Place’s top eight agents and form part of the company’s elite Black Club, recognising high-performing agents across the network.
The pair said the success of their partnership comes down to a simple formula: aligned values, relentless consistency and complementary strengths.
“We’re actually very similar in a lot of ways; we care deeply about our clients, work incredibly hard and believe consistency is key,” Shannon said.
“But our personalities complement each other. Mikaela is more high-energy and fast-paced, while I am calmer and more grounded. That balance benefits both us and our clients.”
Mikaela said one of the biggest misconceptions in real estate is that putting two people together automatically creates a successful team.
“You don’t want one person carrying the entire load. The best teams fill each other’s gaps while moving at the same pace.”
Having two experienced lead agents within one team means clients get a level of service and market knowledge that was difficult to replicate.
“When clients work with us, they’re always dealing with experienced agents,” Mikaela said.
“They’re not being passed off to someone junior halfway through the process.
Buyers and sellers get two highly experienced people who are fully involved from start to finish.”
Combined, they bring more than three decades of experience across real estate and sales, with Shannon having worked in the industry for more than 20 years and Mikaela for 11 years.
Mikaela said one of the biggest drivers behind their growth had been building long-term relationships with clients and growing alongside them through different life stages.
“A lot of the people we started working with were buying their first homes, and now we’re helping them upgrade,” she said.
“You go on that journey with people and over time that creates trust. That’s probably been one of the biggest contributors to our growth because those clients then refer their friends and family.”
Just a year into officially operating as a team, Shannon said much of their business is now referral and word-of-mouth driven.
“When people trust you enough to recommend you to someone they care about, that means everything to us.”
Shannon said their approach to marketing has also played a major role in their growth, with a strong focus on digital visibility, social media and high-frequency local exposure.
“We’ve invested heavily into marketing and video because buyers and sellers need to see consistency. A lot of people say to us, ‘We see you everywhere on Instagram,’ but that visibility doesn’t happen by accident,” Shannon said.
The team also delivers DL flyer campaigns for every property, combining traditional local area marketing with a strong digital presence.
The partnership had also helped them successfully transition further into Brisbane’s higher-end market, with growing momentum in the $2.5 million-plus space.
“We genuinely love helping clients at every level of the market, but we are really enjoying working more in the prestige space as well,” Shannon said
Both believe trust and alignment had been critical to their first year working together.
