A new LJ Hooker sales agent will serve Western Australia’s south-west region, bringing agricultural and rural property expertise after joining the network.

LJ Hooker Property South West has appointed agriculture specialist Mark Murray as a licensed estate agent, as the business expands into the Margaret River region.

Murray will work remotely until a new agency opens in the area next year, while also servicing the Cape to Cape and Cowaramup regions.

According to LJ Hooker, Murray had more than a decade of real estate experience and a background in agriculture and small business.

It said Murray had shown strong support for the local agricultural community, serving on the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) Rural Committee and being vice president of the Lower South West Group.

Before starting in real estate in 2012, he spent more than 15 years farming broadacre properties and operating his own business, developing an understanding of rural properties and surrounding communities.

Murray said he was drawn to LJ Hooker’s positive work culture and the support of a recognisable brand.

“I will be covering a broad aspect of sales that includes residential, land, rural and commercial, which are all acting differently at the moment, but it is exciting to be part of a new office in the region,” he said.

LJ Hooker Property South West principal, Brent Spooner, said the Margaret River location was an ideal area to set up the next agency, as it attracted many buyers wanting to live and holiday.

“We have expanded into new areas many times now and usually within 12 months we have gained good market share or are leading the pack, so we are excited about our new plans,” he said.

“We are thrilled to have Mark on board, and that adds to our confidence. We’ve known each other for some time, and he is the right person to drive the new venture.”

LJ Hooker general manager, marketing, Stephan Gervois, said Spooner had taken on a unique approach to expansion by building a strong market presence before committing to a traditional office.

“Putting an agent of Mark’s calibre on the ground is a smart strategy when entering a new market as it places people and local knowledge at the centre of growth,” he said.

Gervois said the network was committed to finding quality people who wanted to experience its culture, support and opportunities.

“There is momentum building as we count down to our centenary celebrations and that is translating into strong recruitment,” he said.

“We are having conversations with talented people who see where we are headed and want to be part of the next chapter for one of Australia’s most iconic and loved brands.”
