New laws have been introduced this month to amend and replace administrative procedures for owners corporations relating to record keeping, insurance, accounts and a range of other matters.
Among the new laws laid out under the Strata Schemes Management Regulation, property residents will be allowed to hang washing on balconies if it cannot be seen from the street.
In addition, owners corporations will be able to send meeting notices and other documents by email, reducing postage costs.
NSW Fair Trading minister Virginia Judge said the new by-laws would help to reduce household bills and made good environmental sense by decreasing clothes dryer time and reducing snail mail.
"Use of a dryer just once a week could account for ten per cent of the annual power bill for a two bedroom flat.
"More than 600 kilograms of green house gas emissions are generated each year, by using a dryer three times a week."
The changes will apply to new schemes registered from 1 September, but existing schemes can also adopt the new by-laws by passing a special resolution.
