The NSW government has announced that the highly discussed proposed new changes to the state's residential tenancy laws will kick start on 31 January 2011.

The new Residential Tenancies Act 2010 and the Residential Tenancies Regulation 2010 will aim to create an equitable balance between landlords and tenants, REINSW chief executive officer Tim McKibbin said.

"We want to ensure that the residential housing market remains attractive to investors from all walks of life," Mr McKibbon said, adding that the REINSW has worked closely with NSW Fair Trading in relation to developing the new laws.

As a part of the changes, a new form of residential tenancy agreement and condition report is being finalised by REINSW and will be available online and in printed format for purchase from REINSW before 31 January 2011, he said.
