Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors will target Queensland real estate employers as part of a new audit campaign.
The inspectors will audit 125 employers to ensure written agreements for their staff have been lodged correctly with the Queensland Property Industry Register (QPIR).
Under the Real Estate Industry Award 2010, employers are required to clearly outline the payment methods for all property sales and management staff.
Fair Work Ombudsman executive director Michael Campbell said the real estate industry has been put under the spotlight after several internal complaints.
“If employers fail to lodge agreements with the QPIR for any employees, they must pay the employees the rates listed in the Modern Award,” Mr Campbell said.
“In cases where inspectors identify agreements have not been lodged, they will assist the employer to understand its obligations and ask that they voluntarily rectify any underpayment of employee entitlements.”
Fair Work inspectors will target employers throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast.
