The federal government’s latest housing report has been widely welcomed by property commentators.

The new report titled Our Cities, Our Future --‐ A National Urban Policy, looks at the changes that need to occur in the way cities and regional areas are planned and serviced.

“This policy is a good start and makes some encouraging moves toward addressing the housing needs of all Australians. The Government has set a strong agenda for managing population growth,” Real Estate Institute of Australia president David Airey said.

Mr Airey’s compliments were echoed by Housing Industry Association’s chief executive Graham Wolfe.

Mr Wolfe said the report showed the government understood that Australia’s capital cities must be capable growing to house future Australians.

“The HIA supports the clear shift towards a more balanced approach to housing mix and density across our major cities as outlined in a Federal government report released today,” he said.
