The Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) has recognised some of the state’s finest real estate agents and property managers at its annual awards, with the top honour taken out by 20-year industry veteran Steve Martin.

“To reach this level of professional recognition before their peers is an extraordinary achievement and they should all take a bow,” REINSW president Wayne Stewart said.

The 2011 REINSW ‘Awards for Excellence’, held in Sydney over the weekend, recognised the success of agents from a range of fields including residential sales, commercial leasing, property management and auctioneering.

“All our winners exemplify the highest levels of service standards and innovation which continue to drive the real estate profession in New South Wales from strength to strength," said Mr Stewart.

“From those just starting out in their career to some legends of the real estate industry, the 2011 winners of the ‘Awards for Excellence’ are deserving of the highest honour that we can bestow.”

Twenty-year veteran of REINSW, Steve Martin, received the highest honour of the night after being awarded the 2011 Woodrow Weight Award, for his services to the Institute as well as the real estate profession.

“The Woodrow Weight Award is the highest accolade that we can give to one of our peers, and I am honoured to award it this year to Steve Martin,” Mr Stewart said

“The true meaning of the Woodrow Weight Award is really about leadership and Steve Martin is a true leader, be it in his role as an agent, as a valued member of the REINSW or as a fierce advocate for the profession we all love.”

Other notable winners included Morton & Morton Real Estate, which received the REINSW large residential agency of the year award.

Speaking to Real Estate Business, Morton & Morton director Mark Morton said the agency was pleased to receive such recognition as it highlighted the staff's dedication and commitment to the real estate industry.

“Our personal philosophy has always centred on being the best in the industry,” Mr Morton said.

“We believe transparency is key, and all our staff endeavour to give reliable and accurate information to their landlord and vendors.”

Mr Morton believes much of the agency’s success is due to the group’s strong focus on honesty and compassion.

“For real estate agents, selling property is day-to-day work, but most people don’t do it very often and it can quickly become a traumatic experience,” he says.

“You [the agent] need to understand why the vendor is selling and assist them through the process. Too many times I have seen vendors bullied making a decision they have not had the necessary time to think through.

“We try to minimalise the stress of selling a home by providing support and accurate information during the entire process.”
